for the woman who has found beauty in her complexity

CHAPTER I: ILÉ — RETURN TO SELF

To live between cultures is to learn fluidity. To belong everywhere and nowhere all at once. For the DLCT woman, identity is not fixed, it’s a refined mosaic. ILÉ, meaning "home" in Yoruba, marks the beginning of our anthology.

Not as a place, but a return to self. An inner grounding. This chapter honors the woman who has outgrown borrowed definitions. Who embraces her complexity as a source of power. ILÉ is a quiet certainty. A bold remembering. A reclamation.

A declaration that home lives within.

ILÉ Print: A Closer Look

For the woman who has embraced the rich tapestry of her complexity and is ready to celebrate every step of her journey, the ILÉ print is a powerful affirmation. The print is a visual story, brought to life through multiple hand-drawn motifs, including our personalized interpretations of Adinkra symbols and the signature ILÉ in my own handwriting. The goal was for it to become a second skin that adapts to your unique narrative, a living artwork designed to reflect your ever-evolving journey

It is my hope that this print illuminates your own journey.

Bese Saka

Means sack of colanuts, which hold significance in both Nigerian and Ghanaian cultures. Usually given as a sacred offering, represents wealth & unity. To the Igbos, a symbol of acceptance.

Bese Saka celebrates the wealth of your experiences, the unity of your stories and the strength in your self-acceptance. I hope it inspires you to embrace the interconnectedness of your journey.

Duafe

Translates to "wooden comb". Traditionally represents feminine qualities of beauty, love, care and purity.

In our print, Duafe celebrates femininity as fertility through self-care. It honors the beauty of nurturing one's self. May it inspire you to rest in your true self, bringing forth all that you are meant to be.

Hibiscus

From my childhood in Lagos, the striking but delicate petals of the hibiscus often brought me comfort.

The Hibiscus in ILÉ symbolizes the courage to face hard things. May this piece remind you to extend kindness to yourself as you grow and evolve.

ILÉ: THE AFFIRMATIONS

🌺🌺🌺

In the story of a person who lives a life where no one place is home, home transcends physical boundaries. You simply become home to yourself.

Within me lies the sparkle of a thousand diamonds

I adorn myself with grace and compassion

I am a symphony of tales harmonizing into the sweet melody of my existence

Home is wherever I choose for it to be

I am at the centre of it all I determine what meanings hold

I am already home
